Education and Training
The PICCC supports and facilitates a number of graduate courses and professional training initiatives. PICCC researchers have supervised a range of postgraduate students undertaking research-based studies through the University of Melbourne.
Prospective research students should visit the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences Graduate Research page to find out more about undertaking graduate studies in primary industries and climate change.
Training Opportunities
- Master of Environment (Climate Change)
The Master of Environment offers 12 streams of study, from climate change to environmental management and science, to public policy, to sustainable cities and more, including a tailored stream which you can design yourself.
- Climate Change: Agricultural Impacts and Adaptation (12pt 5-day intensive Masters subject)
Impacts of climate change on agriculture challenges our ability to produce enough food for a growing population with fewer resources. Adapting agriculture to climate change to meet these needs is a critical for current and future generations.
This subject examines the potential impacts of climate change on agricultural production and explores adaptation options and barriers within various sectors of agriculture and food production. The program for 2021 should provide an idea of the extensive coverage this subject offers in a 5-day intensive, where we expose students to 17 lectures from the leading expects in each agricultural industry.

- Carbon Neutral Agriculture Training Program
Australian state and territory governments have adopted a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As agriculture is a major contributor to those emissions, it faces significant challenges in meeting these targets. This 1.5 day intensive course will introduce the government policy, industry and carbon market drivers in the context of global, national and industry level emissions and guide learners through Australian agricultural emission sources and sinks. Learners will ultimately develop a full farm carbon audit, account and footprint.
